Day Hikes & Pictures

Day Hike: 02/04/2012

Today we hiked to the  Paul C. Wolfe Shelter with two new hiking friends. It was cloudy and calling for rain, but we decided to do it anyway! So we drove to the Humpback Rock parking area to start our hike. Once we got to the shelter we made a nice fire, warmed up for awhile then took off to take some pictures on Mill Creek. We then returned stoked the fire, roasted some marsh mellows, made S'mores and had some great fellowship around the fire. At 2pm we decided that it was time to pack up and head back. We got back to our cars around 3:30, said our goodbyes and headed home. Whoops...  I just figured out that it was a little further than I had told the new hikers that joined us today. (sorry guys) I had thought that it was about (4) miles round trip, however it was more like (5.8)! Never the less, it was great day and hike. The rain held off, we enjoy great fellowship with lots of laughter and had a great workout in God's gym.
To Note: when I say (new) hikers in this case it means that they have never hiked with The ATM.
We enjoyed you both and hope that you will be joining us again soon!
Below are some pictures from our hike today, God Bless!

Day Hike: 01/31/2012
We took a short (4 mile) hike today. From Calf Mt. Road in Waynesboro VA. via the US Boundary to German Gap on the Skyline drive. We picked up the AT and hiked it for awhile, ran into some day hiker's from Richmond VA. Basically we were just doing some exploring and trail blazing. The weather was beautiful with a temp. around 68 degrees! Below are a few pictures from our hike.
Note: We have a day hike scheduled for Saturday 02/04/2012 to St. Mary's Pass on the Coal road in Lyndhurst, VA. If anyone would like to go please contact us! God Bless!

Hike to the Paul C. Wolf Shelter on the AT.         Date: 01/25/12

OK... So here they are the pictures from our overnight trip to the "Paul C. Wolf" Shelter! We left early Monday morning headed to the Humpback Rock  parking area to began our hike in to the shelter. The only problem was that the Blue Ridge Parkway was CLOSED!  So we found the closest alternative route to get as close to Humpback Rock  as possible, which took us to Lyndhurst Va., where we found Cub Creek Rd. this lead us to within 2 miles of Humpback Rock. So we started our hike down a closed Blue Ridge Parkway road south. Picked up the AT at HBR parking lot and headed north. It was cold out about (36 degrees) ice everywhere from the night before and raining, just a great day to start our hike... not! Ice was falling out of the trees hitting, which seemed to be only me in the head as we walked down the trail. However, we still had a great hike in with lots of laughing and slip/sliding along. We reached the shelter around noon, Shawn built a nice fire, we set our gear up, ate a late lunch, went native trout fishing and then settled in for the night. And did I mention that I fell in the creek while we were fishing? Yeah! It was cold... VERY cold!! The next we awoke just before sunrise got the fire going cooked some breakfast, did some exploring, and decided to make our own trail out (trail blazing) so we look at our map and figured out our route and headed off through the uncharted woods. We did pretty good as we came out on the Blue Ridge Parkway less than 1/8th of a mile just north of were we had parked the truck! We hope that you enjoy the pictures below! Wishing everyone a Bless day from TATM.

We are going on an overnight hike today on the AT, looks like its going to be cold and rainy, :( Look for pictures and information on the hike on Wed. Stay Tuned!!!

Shawn and Kristina hiked the Humpback rock trail today. I believe that it is about a 5 mile round trip hike. It was very cold this morning at the start of there hike, somewhere around 20 degrees! I have to admit that I was snuggled up in my very warm bed as this adventure began. However, I am a little jealous that I was not able to go, just due to my love of the outdoors and hiking! But hopefully we will all get to enjoy a nice hike this Monday as we have reserved every Monday as "hiking day" a national holiday, at least in our world!! Well we hope that you enjoy the pic's, happy hiking and as always may God bless you and everything that you do!! Amen!
